We’re going to let you in on a little secret - good fashion isn’t just about finding something that looks great on you. Aesthetics only play half a role in determining whether you decide to throw a piece into storage after a season, or keep it in your wardrobe as a wear-it-to-death classic. The other, is comfort.
When your sartorial choices look good but leave you feeling constantly uncomfortable, then that’s going to affect your entire day. For example, you can buy the chicest dress you’ve ever seen, but if the material itches, if it’s too restricting or it doesn’t allow your body to breathe, it turns from a piece that makes you feel strong and beautiful, to something that frankly, you can’t wait to tear off at the end of the day.
One of the biggest battles we face in fashion here, is the ability to stay cool whilst looking good, and that’s exactly why the new Marks & Spencer (M&S) linen collection has caught our fashion-looking, comfort-seeking eye.
New cool comfort technology
Fresh for Summer 2018, the collection is comprised of multi-purpose work to play pieces, which include long-sleeved shirts, trousers and shorts, through to day-to-night dresses and skirts. They’re all made from linen and feature their unique, newly developed Cool Comfort technology that promises to keep you covered but ventilated; a much-welcome solution when passing through the heat of outside to an air-conditioned office. There’s even a lingerie range with the Cool Comfort technology too.
So how does it all work? It may seem baffling that your clothes could keep you both cool and warm, but that’s the beauty of the technology. The material draws unwanted moisture away from the skin and allows it to easily pass through the fibres in the material, evaporating as moisture vapour and creating a cooling effect. This means you’ll be able to enjoy featherweight linen without any potentially embarrassing sweat patches or discomfort. It’s a win all round.
Wide range of colours
Another thing that we love about the pieces are the huge range of colours that they come in. With up to eight different shades available for a long-sleeved linen shirt, there’s no restriction or compromise on finding a favourite hue. There’s also a beautiful variety of striped and floral patterns - something that isn’t always associated with simple linens, which you’ll find on shirts, skirts and dresses, for those who don’t want to venture down the plain route.
Easy to iron
Best of all, besides keeping you light and airy, the M&S linen collection is also easy to iron, meaning that’s one chore you can skip in favour of a sneaky sit down with a glass of wine.
Sizes cater for everyone with a huge range from a 6 to 20, making it one of the most inclusive for the high street items. Starting from S$39.90, the collection is a savvy, high quality buy that’ll give you a lot of bang for your buck.
